To the town of Pachica and its people.

The documentary PACHICA: Water, Land, and Saint Isidore the Laborer invites us to immerse ourselves in the profound spirituality and culture of the people of Pachica, a small community nestled in the Tarapacá ravine in northern Chile. This cinematic project, developed between May 2023 and February 2025, stands as a living testament to the faith, tradition, and resilience of a people who, despite their small size, find their collective identity in devotion.

The production began with a clear objective: to portray the feast of Saint Isidore the Laborer, a celebration that takes place every May 15th and spans three days. Through a series of interviews with residents, religious leaders, and scholars, the documentary delves into the significance of this festivity for the community. Saint Isidore, patron saint of farmers and a symbol of hope, becomes the central figure in the life of Pachica, a village of just 50 families that overflows with faith and joy during these days.

Northern Chile is renowned for its religious festivals, but Pachica holds a special uniqueness. Despite its small size and apparent isolation, the community demonstrates incredible strength in keeping this tradition alive year after year. In the documentary, we witness not just a celebration but a cultural and spiritual act of resistance that transcends generations.

In addition to narrating the celebration, PACHICA: Water, Land, and Saint Isidore the Laborer highlights the natural surroundings of this village. The Tarapacá ravine, with its arid landscape and scarce water sources, is more than just a setting—it is a fundamental character in this story. The symbiotic relationship between Pachica and its environment reinforces the importance of Saint Isidore the Laborer, protector of crops and a source of hope in challenging times.

This documentary invites reflection on the connection between beliefs, the land, and the community. Beyond the images, PACHICA is a tribute to a village that, with humility and faith, showcases the beauty of its devotion to the world. It is a story that reminds us that traditions, however small in scale, can be immense in significance.

In every interview, every procession, and every moment captured on screen, PACHICA allows us to witness a celebration that transcends the tangible. It is a bridge between the past and the present, between the earthly and the spiritual, resonating with those who cherish cultural roots and the richness of humanity.

Today, we can proudly say that the documentary is ready for its premiere this August. More than just a film, it is a tribute to a community that taught us the true meaning of togetherness. Every image projected on the screen is a testament to the warmth and generosity we found in Pachica.

We know this premiere will be special. For us, it will serve as a reminder of everything we learned during this journey, and for the people of Pachica, we hope it will be a source of pride. We wish that those who have never visited this corner of Chile can feel its magic through our images.

This experience transformed us. It taught us that great challenges are overcome through teamwork and that shared dreams hold greater power. But above all, it showed us that there are places and people that leave an indelible mark.
